real things

"the real things haven't changed. it is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most if what we have; to be happy with simple pleasures; and to be cheerful and gave courage when things go wrong."

the journey

life is just like an old time rail journey ... delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed.

the trick is to thank the lord for letting you have the ride."

expiration date

[i've been pondering some recent council from a friend and woke up this morning with these words flowing into my mind. this poem is my attempt to capture what i'm learning.]

why do some of life's treasures
expire so quickly
in a lingering blink of apathy?
and a sweetest
most delicious feast of opportunity
closes the gate
to the traveler who never leaves home
because he awaits word from another
that never comes
time scarcely waits for
children who choose not to choose

and what could have been
the best piece of timber
carved into a masterpiece
is bypassed
in search of a chiseled chair
the novice not learned enough to know
the carving makes both
what they wanted to be in the end
for the timber also carves the man

the raw treasure is left for
the wiser
who beholds the timber as sacred
he bows to his Maker to rejoice that
he will become with the timber

thanks for the wisdom mk

“i wish, as well as everybody else, to be perfectly happy; but, like everybody else, it must be in my own way.”  --jane austen

because he lives

he lives.

because he lives, peace can be present in uncertainty and pain.
because he lives, people can (and do) change.
because he lives, families are eternal.
because he lives, broken things can be whole again.
because he lives, i know all of god's promises are real.
because he lives, he continues to guide his church through living prophets.
because he live, lasting joy does exist.

because he lives, i live.

"christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the son of god, who loved me, and gave himself for me." galatians 2:20

what living feels like

it's been a long, exhausting, purposeful, and joyous week! but even after that, i find myself very awake at 2:03 a.m. hol and i are working on another musical fireside about christ for the upcoming easter season and it has consumed every spare minute of my past weeks.

i live on bananas, baby carrots, honey wheat pretzels and cheddar whales, and i run from home to work to the music lab to the library and back to the music lab again. i've learned that those eight years of piano lessons did pay off. oh, and that when you feel deep purpose about something, you willingly lose sleep over it.

i have moments of intense tiredness and others when i feel so energized. time passes quickly as i dive in and put pieces of creativity and inspiration together. it's good to feel urgency towards goals and see heaven help in opening doors and pushing me to make the seemingly impossible a reality.
